How can I tell if a patent has been granted?

There are a few different ways to do this. Firstly, patent numbers have Kind Codes on the end. The KD’s are different for each jurisdiction, but for the main offices they are fairly similar to one another. If you come across a patent EP000001A1, for instance, the A1 means that it is an application document. If you come across EP000001B1 this is the granted document. Another way to check is by going to the “Legal” area, which is the 5th tab along the top when you click into a patent document.
